Written Forms
Mandarin is a logographic language and it has numerous written forms. A simplified form of Mandarin was introduced, in the 1950s that reduces the number of characters, the number of strokes, and alterations in character introduction. This form of written Chinese is known as PinYin. This is the popular form of written Mandarin at the present time; however, traditional Mandarin is still used in Macau and Taiwan.
Character Amnesia
A strange phenomenon exists while writing Mandarin. People who haven’t used traditional Chinese characters for years will forget how to write the character. As such people who constantly are using such characters are to be hired when transcribing.
Dialectical Forms
The dialectical forms of Chinese vary according to provinces. There are 7 major dialectical forms in the Chinese language. Some of these are Mandarin, Shanghainese, Hakka, Wu, and Xiang (though distinct all of them are counted under Mandarin). As you can imagine the varying forms of dialects will result in transcription difficulties. A native expert will come in handy while transcribing these dialectical forms.
