How I Started?
I started my friendship with small airplanes in the Army at age 19 as an aircraft repairman and crew chief from 1966-69. I maintained and flew in Beavers, Otters, Queen Air, and just about every helicopter the Army had in its arsenal. It was 1997 when I landed my dream, a private pilot’s license with USAF Aero Club, Hanscom AFB. I flew club C-172s, Cherokees, and Arrows. Over the next ten years I added Instrument, high performance, complex and seaplane sign-offs. In 2000 I purchased a Seawind kit. I then added a PT6-20 engine and a G 1000 avionics suite.

Avionics

A Brief Tour Of Super Seawind Avionics Suites
The Garmin G-900X is the G-1000 equivalent for the experimental aircraft market. It is a highly sophisticated integrated flight management system. Standard features include a mode S year 2020 compliant transponder, two communications (Com) and two navigation (Nav) radios – each with two standby frequencies.

In addition to VOR and NDB tracking, the G-900x has GPS with V and L Nav capabilities. Linked to a TruTrak Autopilot, the 900x permits coupled navigation and ILS and GPS approaches right down to the runway threshold.The 900x also has terminal procedures and approach plates for all published approaches through Jeppesen flight services. Synthetic Vision (SV) enhances IFR approaches by providing positional awareness and wind correction. The 900x of N71RJ pilot side has a Primary Flight Display of all six standard flight instruments plus Nav, Com and SV. The MultiFunction Display (MFD) on the co-pilot side has mapping, tracking, weather, traffic, and NAV/COM control and display.

Take a ride on the Seawind and go places you never dreamed of – yet. The Seawinds you’ll see here are Lycoming 300 HP gas engines – not my PT6 turbine 550 HP. My airplane has much higher actual performance stats than the standard Lycoming engines deliver – which is in itself extraordinary.
