Eterna is celebrating its 160th anniversary and birthplace with a new collection fueled by a new caliber.
Watchmaking came to the Granges (or Grenchen in German) in 1851, five years before Eterna was founded by Urs Schild and Josef Girard. A century later, in 1958, Eterna made an impression with the Eterna-Matic, powered by a self-winding mechanical caliber with a rotor on a rolling bearing. The low-friction system absorbs shock and helps move the oscillating weight, and the five metal spheres in a star shape (usually at 12 on the dial) have become the symbol and logo of the Granges-based brand.
Eterna unveils a new model to celebrate its 160th birthday and pay tribute to the city where it was born and raised: Fake Granges 1856. There are ten versions of the timepiece, all limited to 100 pieces, available in four colors (glossy silver, charcoal gray, midnight blue, and champagne) on domed sunburst dials with Arabic or Roman numerals. The design is reminiscent of the Eterna-Matic from 1958.
The hour edge on the dial features Arabic numerals and applied markers (on the silver, anthracite, and blue models) or Roman numerals (on the champagne model) with the minute hand on the chapter ring. Two metal dauphine-shaped hands in the center track the minutes next to a central second hand in the shape of a stick. A double date display with a dark or light background is at 3.
Eterna spent six years researching and developing a new self-winding timepiece to match the Granges 1856 replica watch. The EMC 3030 caliber brings the time and date functions and a 48-hour power reserve into the 42 mm steel case with a sapphire back. Can stare at the movement.
